How to use Nuqta Icons in Claude, ChatGPT and Codex (MCP)

The Nuqta Icons connector (an MCP server) lets AI assistants search the library and paste real icons into what they build. You ask “add a delivery icon” and the assistant finds scooter, uses your style and drops in the SVG. No look-alikes drawn from memory. One URL works in Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and VS Code.

The connector is free for the Stroke style in all 3 corner shapes. With Pro, your personal URL unlocks all 8 styles.

1. Get your connector URL

Free:

https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp

Pro: log in, open License & setup and pick the AI assistants tab. Your URL ends with your access token:

https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp/nqtt_your_access_token

Keep the Pro URL private, like a password. If it leaks, press Make a new token on your Account page. The old URL stops working right away.

2. Add it to your app

Claude (web and desktop)

  1. Open Settings → Connectors and press Add custom connector.
  2. Name: Nuqta Icons. URL: https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp (without the token).
  3. Authentication: leave No sign-in selected.
  4. Pro: under Request headers, press Add header. Name: Authorization. Value: Bearer nqtt_your_access_token. Claude stores it securely and never shows it again.
  5. Press Add. In a chat, open the tools menu and make sure Nuqta Icons is on.

Claude warns that anyone with the URL can use a no-sign-in connector. That is why the token goes in the header, not the URL: the plain URL only gives the free Stroke style.

Custom connectors need a paid Claude plan. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add it for the organization first.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http nuqta-icons https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp/nqtt_your_access_token

Run claude mcp list to check it is connected. Add --scope user to use it in every project.

ChatGPT

  1. On chatgpt.com, open Settings → Apps (called Apps & Connectors in some accounts) → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Back in Apps, press Create (or Create app).
  3. Name: Nuqta Icons. URL: paste your connector URL. Authentication: No authentication (your token is already in the URL). Accept the warning and press Create.
  4. In a new chat, press + → More (or Developer mode) and pick Nuqta Icons, then ask for icons.

Developer mode is a beta on the web for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. In Business and Enterprise workspaces an admin may need to turn it on first. Every Nuqta tool only reads icons, so ChatGPT won’t ask you to confirm changes.

Codex (CLI, IDE extension and app)

codex mcp add nuqta-icons --url https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp/nqtt_your_access_token

Or add it to ~/.codex/config.toml yourself. The CLI and IDE extension share this file:

[mcp_servers.nuqta-icons]
url = "https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp/nqtt_your_access_token"

Want the token out of the file? Use the free URL and keep the token in an environment variable instead:

[mcp_servers.nuqta-icons]
url = "https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "NUQTA_TOKEN"

Run codex mcp list to check it, or type /mcp inside Codex.

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "nuqta-icons": { "url": "https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp/nqtt_your_access_token" }
  }
}

VS Code (GitHub Copilot agent mode)

Add this to .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "nuqta-icons": { "type": "http", "url": "https://nuqtaicons.com/mcp/nqtt_your_access_token" }
  }
}

Other MCP apps

Any app that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP works. Use the same URL. If an app asks for a header instead, use the free URL and send Authorization: Bearer nqtt_your_access_token.

Do not commit a config file that contains your Pro URL to a public repository.

3. Ask for icons

Name the style once and the assistant keeps it across the whole design. Try:

Build a pricing page with Nuqta icons, duotone style, round corners.
Add Nuqta icons to this sidebar: home, search, inbox, settings, log out.
Show me 8 delivery icons from Nuqta in the bold style.
Replace the emoji in this React component with Nuqta stroke icons.

What the connector can do

Styles: stroke (Stroke), light (Light), bold (Bold), solid (Filled), duotone (Duotone), twotone (Twotone), tint (Tint), shift (Shift). Corners: round, classic, sharp.

Troubleshooting

Questions

Is the Nuqta Icons MCP server free?

Yes for the Stroke style in all 3 corner shapes. The other 7 styles need a Pro license and your personal connector URL.

Which apps work with the Nuqta Icons connector?

Claude (web, desktop and Claude Code), ChatGPT developer mode, OpenAI Codex (CLI, IDE extension and app), Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, and any other app that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP.

Does Nuqta Icons work in ChatGPT?

Yes. Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT settings, create an app with your Nuqta connector URL and no authentication, then pick it from the + menu in a chat.

Is my access token safe in the connector URL?

The URL only works over HTTPS and only reads icons. Keep it private anyway, and make a new token on your Account page if you shared it by mistake.

Does the connector work in Claude artifacts and ChatGPT canvas?

Yes. The assistant gets the SVG code from the connector and pastes it straight into the artifact, canvas or file, so icons show without loading anything from our site.
